Girl Asleep

One of the hits from the Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney Film Festivals Girl Asleep has gained an early release and will open in Australian cinemas on Thursday, September the 8th.

The film is also opening for general release in 21 cities throughout the US.

This is the first feature film for the director Rosemary Myers who has a long career in theatre and is currently the artistic director of the Windmill Theatre in Adelaide.

In fact, the film is based on a successful stage production of the same name by the Windmill Theatre company.

Girl Asleep stars young Australian actors  Bethany Whitmore best known for her role as Jaden Kagan in the US TV mini series The Starter Wife as well as Harrison Feldman from Upper Middle Bogan.

I missed this one at Melbourne International Film Festival as it sold out early so I'm keen to catch it now.

The film has won 6 international film awards including the Seattle Film Festival’s Grand Jury Prize and more recently, The Age Critics' Prize for Best Australian Feature Film at MIFF.

Girl Asleep has been described with favourable references to Muriel’s Wedding, Napoleon Dynamite and flashes of Wes Anderson.

It's a fantastical coming of age story and definitely looks like a lot of fun.
