More Shades Than Gray Matter

 Gray Matters, New York

Mildred Egg in Giallo

Italian born, Brooklyn based designer Silvia Avanzi was inspired by the trend of mid heel ankle boots by labels like Acne when she launched her brand Gray Matters almost a year ago.

With a back ground in brand strategy working for companies like Stuart Weitzman and Donna Karan, Silvia had the skill and acumen to cleverly turn her life long shoe passion in to a global business.

Micol Pump in Red

Focusing on the comfort of a mid heel, the brand explores a minimalist style through pumps and sandals and the result is a sophisticated fashion shoe.

They have the quirkiness of the "nursey shoe"  but with polish so can work with basic outfits through to more fashion forward looks.

They have the look of the popular glove shoe style but with more structure for better comfort, quality and longer wear.

With comfort and quality at the top of the list, Silvia explored many factories in Italy before settling on one that has been crafting shoes for Bottega Veneta and Chanel.

Mildred

Most of the collection is cleverly based on two shapes - the Mildred and the Micol which morph from pumps, to mules to sandals.

The beauty is in the simplicity and the incredible colour range.

I can hear myself saying "one in every colour!"

In a short time, Gray Matters have picked up an incredible number of key stockists including Lane Crawford in Hong Kong and US stores Moda Operandi, Totokaelo, Need Supply and Bona Drag.

I'm obsessed with the Egg heels and love the video that the brand have created on their home page to introduce the Mildred Egg. Watch it here.
