It's been a very busy week with the Melbourne Film Festival on and I have actually loved every film that I've seen so far.

So those hours of research really paid off haha!

My favourite one so far has been Heart of a Dog which was written and directed by musician and artist Laurie Anderson.

I have been a fan of Laurie's ever since I heard her seminal track O Superman released in 1981.

Watch the video here.

The death of her beloved dog Lolabelle came soon after the death of her husband Lou Reed and Laurie has made the film in response to her grief.

It's not all sad though with some very humorous moments mixed through home movies, animation and Buddhist philosophy.

It was heartbreaking but so beautiful.

The film ends on a wonderful track by Lou Reed called Turning Time Around from his album Ecstasy (2000)

Hear the song here.

If you haven't already, I hope that you get a chance to see this film.

More details are available on Laurie's website here.
